Choose the NordicTrack T 6.5 S if you…

  • Prefer better cushioning: The T 6.5 S features FlexSelect cushioning that can be turned on or off, providing enhanced comfort and reduced joint impact. So, if you want a treadmill with selective cushioning, the T 6.5 S is the recommended option.
  • Want a treadmill with iFit: The T 6.5 S offers 20 built-in programs and is compatible with iFit, providing additional training options and interactive workouts.
  • Want a quieter treadmill: The T 6.5 S is known for its quiet operation during both walking and running. If a quieter treadmill is essential for your workout environment, the T 6.5 S is the better option.

Choose the Horizon Fitness T101 if you…

  • Prefer a smaller footprint: Although both models are very compact, the Horizon Fitness T101 has a smaller footprint compared to the NordicTrack T 6.5 S, making it a better choice for those with limited space.
  • Prefer a treadmill with cooling fan: The T101 comes with a cooling fan, which is not available on the T 6.5 S. If you are like me and need some air flow during workouts the T101 is the better option.
  • Are looking for a treadmill with a great warranty: The T101 offers a lifetime warranty on both the frame and motor, providing added peace of mind and long-term durability.
  • Seek a more budget-friendly option: The T101 has a more budget-friendly price tag.

Key Differences:

  • The T101 has a smaller footprint.
  • Design and Build Quality: Both treadmills have the same running area of 20″ x 55″, a 10% motorized incline, and a maximum weight capacity of 300 lbs. However, the T 6.5 S has a slightly more powerful 2.6 CHP motor compared to the T101’s 2.5 CHP motor. Furthermore, the T 6.5 S features a better cushioning for added comfort.
  • Console and Tech: The T 6.5 S has a simple 5-inch LCD screen and offers 20 built-in programs. It is also iFit compatible. The T101 features three blue LED windows and only 5 built-in programs and has no app connectivity option.
  • The T101 has a cooling fan and Bluetooth audio which the T 6.5 S does not have.
  • Noise Level: The T 6.5 S is known for its quiet operation during both walking and running. On the other hand, the T101’s motor is slightly louder on higher speeds.
  • Warranty: The T 6.5 S offers a 10-year warranty on the frame, a 2-year warranty on parts, and a 1-year labor warranty. In contrast, the T101 offers a lifetime warranty on both the frame and motor, and a 1-year warranty on parts and labor.

Design and Build Quality

The NordicTrack T 6.5 S and Horizon Fitness T101 both have a running area of 20″ x 55″, which is suitable for walkers and joggers with shorter strides. They both have a 10% motorized incline and a maximum weight capacity of 300 lbs. The T 6.5 S has a slightly more powerful motor at 2.6 CHP, on paper, compared to the T101’s 2.5 CHP motor, but I did not feel any difference – as expected -, during my tests.

Both treadmills have a sturdy steel frame and a durable running platform. The T 6.5 S features FlexSelect cushioning that can be turned on or off, providing more comfort and reducing joint impact. On the other hand, the T101’s frame feels stable and solid, there is minimal movement in the console even when running at high speeds. It feels like a premium model in terms of stability.

Console Features and Technology

The NordicTrack T 6.5 S has a more straightforward console with a monocolor 5-inch LCD screen, while the Horizon Fitness T101 features three blue LED windows for displaying workout metrics. The T 6.5 S offers 20 built-in programs and is compatible with iFit, providing additional training options. The T101 has only 5 built-in programs and no training apps. If you want a Horizon treadmill with app connectivity you must check their AT series such as 7.0 AT.

NordicTrack T 6.5 S and T101 Consoles
NordicTrack T 6.5 S and T101 Consoles

Both treadmills have a tablet holder, speakers, and a heart rate monitor. The T 6.5 S uses a Dual CardioGrip Heart Rate Monitor, while the T101 uses EKG Contact Grips. They are accurate enough. The T101 has a cooling fan and Bluetooth audio, these features are not available on the T 6.5 S. But as a quick note, although the T101’s speakers are Bluetooth-enabled, they are not as powerful as the T 6.5 S’s speakers.

Ease of Use and Noise

The NordicTrack T 6.5 S is known for its ease of use, with a streamlined console and 20 onboard programs that do not require WiFi. It is foldable with hydraulic assist release, making it easy to store when not in use.
The Horizon Fitness T101 is also easy to use. It is foldable and lightweight, allowing for easy movement and storage.

During my testing, I found the NordicTrack T 6.5 S easy to fold and relatively quiet, with minimal foot noise during walking and running. The Horizon Fitness T101, on the other hand, had a simple-to-use console and folding mechanism, with a slightly louder motor on higher speeds. Its incline adjustment system is very quiet.

Warranty and Customer Support

The NordicTrack T 6.5 S offers a 10-year warranty on the frame, 2-year on parts, and a 1-year labor warranty. The Horizon Fitness T101 offers a lifetime warranty on both the frame and motor, and a 1-year warranty on parts and labor. So, the T101is the winner in terms of warranty.

Bottom Line

Both the NordicTrack T 6.5 S and the Horizon Fitness T101 are excellent treadmills. The T 6.5 S is a great option for those who want a more powerful motor, more built-in programs, iFit connectivity, and better cushioning.

On the other hand, the Horizon Fitness T101 is ideal for walkers and users who prefer a simpler treadmill with fewer tech features. Its cooling fan, Bluetooth audio, and longer warranty are additional advantages over the T 6.5 S. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly treadmill for walking without app connectivity, the T101 is a top choice.

Both treadmills offer a quality workout experience, but the T 6.5 S has more tech features and a slightly more powerful motor, so our winner is the NordicTrack T 6.5 S.

Hey guys, I’m considering buying a treadmill for my home gym and I’m torn between the NordicTrack T 6.5 S and Horizon Fitness T101. Can anyone share their experiences or recommendations?

  2. CardioKing3000

I’m also looking for some advice on these treadmills. I want to know more about the performance and tech features or any issues.

  3. FitnessFanatic22

I’ve been using the NordicTrack T 6.5 S for about six months now. I find it’s great for casual users like me, 10 mph and a 10% motorized incline is enough for me for now. The console is pretty basic but I am using my tablet all the time so no problem. I tried iFit, it was great. I’m thinking to subscribe.

    • SweatySprinter

The T 6.5 S has a tablet holder, speakers, and an MP3 jack. However, it lacks a cooling fan and Bluetooth audio, which are available on the Horizon T101. It is strange that they did not include a fan.

      • FitLifeJourney_7

Thanks for the input! How about ease of use and noise levels? Are there any significant differences?

        • SweatySprinter

It is quite easy to fold and use. I also find it relatively quiet during my workouts, so it’s great for my apartment. I don’t know about the T101.

  4. HomeGymEnthusiast

I’ve got the Horizon Fitness T101, and it’s a solid treadmill. It has a 2.5 CHP motor. It has a more basic tech setup, it has just five built-in programs but I think it is enough. The good thing is, it has a cooling fan, speakers, and Bluetooth audio which I didn’t know when I bought 🙂
