Pros:

  • Priced just under $1000 with features that are often found in more expensive models we have reviewed.
  • 20” x 60”, 2-Ply belt with adjustable cushioning ensures smooth running experience.
  • It has quick access and handlebar buttons for easy adjustments.
  • Supports users up to 350 lbs.
  • Bluetooth connectivity with third-party apps such as Zwift is great, and you can also enjoy the 30 onboard programs without any additional cost.  There are some custom mode and heart rate training options too.
  • Comes with a lifetime warranty on the frame and motor.
Cons:

  • Regular lubrication of the belt needed.
  • Its 3.0 HP motor might not be suitable for very intense training or long-distance running.
  • Fan is small and less powerful than similar models.
  • Though it can connect to wireless heart rate monitors, it does not come with it.

The display is very basic, it has a 6.5” bright blue backlit LCD display to show your stats such as profile, time, speed, pace, distance, calories, incline, and pulse. We like the clear layout which makes it easy to keep track of your progress and stay motivated. There are quick buttons on each side of the screen for changing incline and speed, buttons for the incline on the left, and speed buttons on the right side. But there is one other thing we like more. This basic console is smarter than it looks.

Console with quick incline and speed buttons on each side

This treadmill comes with built-in FTMS-enabled Bluetooth, so you can easily connect to FTMS-enabled third-party apps like Zwift (Kinomap, Tacx, and more) for interactive and fun workouts. In this mode, you will use your own device as the main treadmill screen. Training apps are great to keep things interesting, but the onboard programs that come with the TRX3500 are also great. There are 30 programs, 2 custom programs, and a heart rate control program on the console. The treadmill can also connect with wireless heart rate monitors, but it does not come with one.

Another great feature is its handlebar-mounted speed and incline controls to easily adjust your workout intensity on the fly. They are just located over the heart rate pulse monitors.
The XTERRA TRX3500 treadmill is 213 lbs. and measures 77.2″ x 35.5″ x 56.1″ (L x W x H). It is a foldable treadmill, and measuring 51.2″ x 35.5″ x 65.8″ when folded. The step-up height is pretty standard at 7.75 inches. The treadmill has an accessory tray, cup holders on each side of the console, a built-in speaker, a cooling fan, and transport wheels.
The Xterra TRX3500 treadmill comes with a comprehensive warranty for its price, the motor and frame are covered for a lifetime, the deck/parts for 2 years, and in-home labor for 1 year.

What We Like About the TRX3500:

Affordable: The Xterra TRX3500 treadmill offers great value for its price, as there is no other model under $1000 with an FTMS-enabled console, a 3 HP motor, and a 350 lbs. weight capacity while providing a great warranty.

TRX3500 Treadmill Folded

Speed/Incline Controls: There are quick access buttons for the speed and incline on the console and you also have easy-to-reach buttons on the handlebars. These days many models come without handlebar buttons which is not ideal for people who need to change speed and incline frequently.

Running Deck: The deck is not as wide as some higher-end models, but the belt is two-ply and thicker than most of the treadmills in this price range. The 20”x60” belt also has adjustable cushioning; you can turn it on or off for adjusting the feel of the surface you are running. With the cushioning on you have a softer surface.

Weight capacity: The 350 lbs. user weight rating is great. This treadmill is also a great option for heavy users.

Third-Part Apps Connectivity: The TRX3500 does not come with a fancy touchscreen but the console is FTMS Bluetooth enabled, which allows you to connect your tablet and use third-party training apps. It connects and syncs many apps smoothly, but we recommend you try it with Zwift for maximum fun.

Folding Design: The frame is very easy to fold with the EasyLift assist. It measures 51.2 inches in length, 35.5 inches in width, and 65.8 inches in height when folded and is also very easy to move around with the transport wheels.

Warranty: The treadmill comes with a great warranty, it is covered by a lifetime warranty on the frame and motor and 2 years on deck and parts, which gives you peace of mind.

What We Don’t Like About the TRX3500:

Maintenance: You need to lubricate the belt from time to time, but it is not a big problem as most other models under $1000 also need this kind of maintenance.

Small Handlebar buttons: We like the handlebar buttons, but they are very small, wish they were bigger or in a different style.

Hi👋 I’m currently in the market for a treadmill to use with Zwift, and I’ve been thinking about the Xterra TRX3500.
I noticed that it’s on the supported treadmill list also you stated in your review, but I’ve also read some people have had trouble connecting to Zwift with it on reddit. I really don’t want to invest in a treadmill that won’t work with Zwift, so I was wondering if anyone has any experience using this model with Zwift?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

    • Hello, this is a great question. Good news🎉,the Xterra TRX3500 works great with Zwift. The only thing to keep in mind is that Zwift won’t be able to change the incline. That’s probably a safety measure they’ve implemented across all treadmills so it is not specific to TRX3500.

However, there are other apps out there you can try that can automatically adjust incline if that’s something you’re looking for. Let us know if you have any problems.
